I use TROMjaro and love it. It’s currently my distro of choice on all 3 of my machines. The Thinkpad T440 (int the center) is my daily driver is an i7 with 12GB ram and an SSD. TROMjaro is blazing fast and beautiful. Especially wit the external monitor attached. I use the Thinkpad for 90% of my daily computer tasks. The other machine (behind the Thinkpad) is called Frankeputer and is an old HP laptop with no screen, an i5, 16GB ram and 1TB HDD. TROMjaro is just as fast and efficient on it as well. Frankenputer is used for hosting my podcast/blog files on the lan so I can edit them on any machine from any room. It also runs the music/sound FX into my mixer for the shows audio. Where I keep an eye on the streams and the audience chats during the show. That audio that feeds into the mixer then goes into the Thinkpad which is running OBS Studio to stream to the live audience as well as record the video versions of the podcasts.

My mixer is a Zoom R16 which also records the audio onto an sd card as a back up in case of a crash of OBS Studio or I spill coffee on the Thinkpad. Speaking of backups. Not seen in the pic is an old Dell Inspirion laptop running TROMjaro to the left of me. It’s sporting an i3 with 16GB ram and a 1TB HDD. It’s there always at the ready just in case the Thinkpad or Frankenputer fails during a live show. And you guessed it TROMjaro screams along on it as well. This is without a doubt the best and most beautiful experience I’ve ever had in the Gnome Desktop.

In 2007, my brother bought a MacBook Pro that I’ve been using since about 2014. It was already 8 years old but it still worked great. But in 2016, I started to notice the effects of planned obsolescence: the CD-ROM started malfunctioning, it would suddenly turn off and emit a beep that could only be stopped by forcing the shutdown. The apps could easily take 5-7 minutes to open, and there were a few other problems.

The big surprise came when I decided to take the step and change to the TROMjaro (linux) operating system: My computer now works as fast as it did on the first day, it doesn’t crash, the system is very intuitive and it didn’t take me any time to get used to, since I have access to everything I used for my daily work and much more- for free and with much more privacy compared to other operating systems. 🙂

Hola Amigos! I decided to try TROMjaro in February 2019 and I am very happy so far.

Installing an OS was something new for me, but I learned to do so and it was a fulfilling experience that I recommend. In fact I have installed it in 3 other laptops.

I use its many recommended apps to navigate the internet, chat, watch documentaries, films, read news, ebooks, listen to music, podcasts, edit documents, videos, images, organize my day to day… It is very easy to keep all my stuff safe and the system updated and if I have any problems, the TROM Support guys are there to assist, no charge. Better than free, trade-free. Overthinking is malo, just try TROMjaro.

I’m what some people may call “computer retarded” 😀 but I use TROM-Jaro every day and find it easier to use than any other operating system I have used in the past. It’s simple, it’s free and it works perfectly well for everything I need a computer for. I use it to write and edit blogs, books and long articles (using LibreOffice). I sort and edit photos (with GIMP kaj Shotwell), download and watch documentaries (with WebTorrent), surf the web (with Firefox), draw (with MyPaint), listen to music and podcasts (with MusikWave kaj CPod), make voice and video calls (with Jitsi), voice recordings (with Audacity) and more.

I highly recommend TROM-Jaro because it works great, it’s neat and simple, and it’s trade-free!

With the code base of Manjaro Linux and the graphical user environments GNOME, KDE and Xfce, this distribution represents a stable and powerful operating system from the Arch family. What distinguishes TROMjaro from its origin (and all other distributions) are the ethical principles to which the development team is committed. The way of thinking which goes beyond software is described with the attribute Trade Free and explained in detail on the website tromsite.de (the official German information platform of the TROM project).

In TROMjaro, inclusions with commercial contact points have been consistently removed, which is why support for Snap (Snap Store) is missing. However, the Arch User Repository (AUR) is activated by default and the project offers some self-developed and promising applications for free use. After installation, TROMjaro presents itself in a modern and uniform design. While tools for system maintenance and adjustments are completely available, there are only a few pre-installed applications. In this respect, users have unrestricted freedom of choice, supported by an excellent graphical installation tool. The project’s website provides a wealth of information and instructions, mainly in the form of videos.

I am using Tromjaro OS and the apps for the work. Creating and editing pictures with Gimp. Making collages with Photocollage. Sending emails with Criptext. Backing-up files and sharing the with Syncthing. Using Freetube to watch ads free clips and kids movies and listening my favorite music with Clementine.

TROM Backup Server

We had a 10-15 year old computer around – Pentium 4 (2 cores) and 4 GB of DDR2 + an integrated Intel (old) graphic card. We also had 1 very old and huge (as in physical size) HDD (that makes loud noises) + 2 of 1TB external HDD + 1 of 320GB external HDD. So, we combined them all, and made a new computer using a TV we had at the rental place. We installed TROM-Jaro and worked perfectly with all of the hardware, including an old bluetooth keyboard/mouse (all in one).

It is so amazing that TROM-Jaro (thanks to Linux of course), worked out of the box. The fact that it also had Syncthing installed, made it a click away to create a backup server. How? Simply syncing our computers (folders) with this new computer that its sole purpose is to copy (sync) files. So, now say we have this massive TROM folder with all of the TROM files in-it. We have it on 1 computer that also syncs to this new “server”, so in case one fails, we have a backup. And it is all automated! That’s how we put old hardware for good use! 🙂 And no expert knowledge to do that. Sycnthing is as easy to use as Dropbox.

I am professional musician and use TROM-JARO for audio recording, video and photo editing, safe internet browsing, it’s my main and the only OS I have. It’s working great and fast, without ads. All software on my PC is either open source or trade free. I can’t imagine to switch back to Windows anymore. Any application, program or utility can be easily found and installed in software center for free.

The TROM-Jaro desktop has its own unique look and feel. Much of that results from the developers’ use of Zafiro icons and Vimix theme. They fit the overall “flat” TROM-Jaro design. That design includes the flat wallpapers and selected Gnome Extensions that bring different functionality options to the GNOME desktop. Be sure to check them out. Only some are turned on by default. TROM-Jaro has a variety of themes and icons. You can install lots more to customize the appearance your way.

This distro supports four languages: English, Russian, Spanish and German. Be sure to check out the APPS section on the developers’ website. There you will find a hefty list of recommended trade-free applications tested for use on TROM-Jaro.

TROM-Jaro is my tool to create trade-free things. I use it to translate TROM materials into german, such as videos and audiobooks with the video-editor kdenlive + audacity and books with the partially trade-free app Master PDF Editor. I communicate with humans via Signal, Riot and Thunderbird and I work on my personal website + browse the web with Firefox. All trade-free. Plus I decentralize our materials with easy-to-use apps like webtorrent and the beaker browser. All in all I love tromjaro as it is fast, easy to use and it simply works. The fact that it works on my macbook is even another big plus-point.

I use trom-jaro to easily edit videos and maintain multiple systems that help decentralize some of the tools and videos TROM creates! I also use it to host the TROM-Cast weekly and thanks to it’s lack of tracking / data harvesting, my computers resources can be freed to do what I WANT =]

My Parents

My parents are using TROM-Jaro for the past half year or so. And Linux (Ubuntu or other flavors) for the past 3-4 years or more. They simply need a stable operating system and a way for them to access the Internet without “trading” as much. In truth my first motivation to make a custom Linux OS was to do it for my parents because I wanted them to have a “ready to use” OS that blocks ads and trackers and it is simple enough for them to use. In fact I tested TROM-Jaro with them first, because if they can use it, most people can. They are not at all computer savvy and probably most people are like that, so we need an operating system that ca be used by anyone. They know very well how to keep the system updated now, and because TROM-Jaro has automatic backups before every update then it is easy for me to fix their computers in case an update breaks the system, which never happened so far. I also installed TROM-Jaro on a half a laptop (that had no screen anymore) and I connected it with a TV so now they have a “smart TV” to watch online whatever they want to watch. I paired that with a cheap Bluetooth remote controller that worked out of the box and so now they have 3 devices with TROM-Jaro. So, it is super useful that TROM-Jaro is set up for people who don’t know much about computers because I make sure my parents don’t see ads or are tracked online, have automatic backups and the interface is so easy to use that they can find whatever they need by pressing or clicking one button (the Dash). The laptops have between 2 and 4 GB of RAM and a simple integrated Intel graphics card, and the TV has 1.6GB of RAM. TROM-Jaro works well on all of them out of the box.

Hello, I’m Roma, I love technologies and programming and I use TROMjaro OS for pretty much every task I need to accomplish with my computer – work, movies, music, photos, chatting and entertainment. There are so many great open source apps available on a tip of a finger. To help TROM with coding and web development I use PyCharm CE and Atom – great open source IDE. SM Player and VLC to play videos and clips, Rhythmbox to organize my music library and Shotwell for photos albums. I prefer Riot – an open source instant messaging app to keep in touch with Team. And to relax sometimes – PlayOnLinux app, based on open source Wine platform, which is able to run Windows games in TROMjaro! I absolutely adore TROMjaro’s efficiency, performance and freedom of choice. Hope to see you in our ranks a fellow computer user, there is always a place for you ^^ Love ❤️

Microsoft has admitted that normal Windows users are testing unstable updates. This has led to various problems such as systems needing a reset and thus losing all the installed apps and settings. I use TROM-Jaro because before reaching us end-users, the system updates are tested by a lot of tech-savvy users for more or less two weeks.
