Carla is 'n volledig toegeruste modulêre klankinpropgasheer, met ondersteuning vir baie klankdrywers en inpropformate.
Dit het 'n paar lekker kenmerke soos vervoerbeheer, outomatisering van parameters via MIDI CC en afstandbeheer oor OSC.

Carla ondersteun tans LADSPA (insluitend LRDF), DSSI, LV2, VST2, VST3 en AU plugin formate, plus SF2 en SFZ lêer ondersteuning.
Dit gebruik JACK as die verstek en voorkeur klankbestuurder, maar ondersteun ook inheemse drywers soos ALSA, DirectSound of CoreAudio.

Daar is 4 tipes enjinverwerking:

• Enkelkliënt: (Slegs JACK-bestuurder)
  Dieselfde as Multi-kliënt, behalwe dat alle JACK-poorte aan 'n enkele meesterkliënt behoort.
  Dit is nodig wanneer 'n opstelling nie multikliënt JACK-toepassings, soos LADISH, ondersteun nie.
• Multi-kliënt: (Slegs JACK-bestuurder)
  Every single plugin is exposed as a new JACK client. Audio and MIDI ports are registered as needed.
• Rack:
  Plugins are processed in order, from top to bottom.
  Plugins with non-stereo audio channels are not supported, but a forced-stereo option is available for Mono ones.
• Patchbay:
  Modular patchbay mode, just like in JACK Multi-client and many other modular applications.
  Every plugin gets its own canvas group and ports allowing you to interconnect plugin audio and MIDI.
